There is no doubt that your clients are fussy. They checked you out before they hired you! It’s your job to create something tailored to their site and personality and bring it in on budget. LOCK-BLOCK® can be easily customized to integrate with the overall aesthetic plan for the project. Please read on ...

The other options - You have probably been disappointed in the past with the quality of cast in place concrete. Many designers and specifiers share your disappointment when the forms come off. Cast in place concrete is an art rather than a science, and there are precious few artists around producing the kind of results you would like to have your name associated with.

The dry stack masonry systems for manual installation available at the big box retailers are okay, but they lack a substantial feel and have as much character as cinder blocks. This is not surprising given these units are made by concrete block companies.

Gropius may have liked these ready-mades in his day but the texture is open, absorptive, and the edges are either too sharp or artificially distressed . The overall look is suburban and dreary.

LOCK-BLOCK® Image - We can’t deny that our engineered retaining walls are pretty plain Jane too. Aesthetics take a definite back seat to engineering properties on infrastructure work.|

LOCK-BLOCK® Redoux - Get ready to switch gears as you realize what a blankcanvas LOCK-BLOCK® units truly can be. Blocks are cast with the outside face down on the casting bed, This large deep face measures over 1. 125 M² or 12.08 sq. ft. of deeply impressionable concrete!

This huge area allows large scale details and repeatable patterns to be cast into the face of the wall. We use custom liners to produce our TEXTURLOCK™ and Cut Stone type textured faces that are shown on the Retaining Wall tab.

We can make custom liners for your project as well with detailing as fine as you want.

Pattern bonding and transitions - The range of lengths and heights of our blocks allow you to design pattern bonding. Textures can subtly emphasis these bond patterns. The selective use of pigments and stain can also add bold or subtle emphasise. You can even build an Inukshuk like the one on our home page, or add an arch or vault to the overall plan with the ARCH-LOCK™ brand.
Textures and details - As mentioned LOCK-BLOCK® units are cast with the exposed face down onto a casting bed. Liners can be easily inserted onto this casting bed to emboss designs and details into the face of the block.
Shapes and sizes - We have two sizes of LOCK-BLOCK® units. The full sized 4400 pound unit and the 500 pound half scale Mini. Mini blocks can be installed with a mini excavator where access is restricted.
Coursing and transitions - Use your imagination here to create something unique with the differing shapes, heights and lengths of the blocks. It’s all modular. Gropius would have loved it.
Colours - We can add pigments to the concrete to make a range of colours. Readily available stains can be applied as the final finishing touch as well. This is a great way to deal with graffiti prone locations, simply re-apply the stain.
Engineering - Very easily done by your consultant, UNITED LOCK-BLOCK LTD.™ has a comprehensive structural design manual available to registered engineers. Many already have it on their digital shared files.
Availability - We have a number of shipping points and take advantage of truck and barge backhauls to keep delivered cost down. Our precast yard is barge accessible for Gulf Island and Vancouver Island work.
The Pitch for Pre-Casting - Casting concrete in an engineer supervised pre-cast yard makes a lot of sense from a quality standpoint. A precast system is a lot faster to erect inspect and manage , and has a lot less impact on the property, construction scheduling, and the other trades.
The money - Save on this portion of the work you can allocate for more important elements in your design that will really please your client!
The numbers - LOCK-BLOCK® walls installed cost a fraction of poured concrete wall construction.
Sustainable considerations and LEED™ construction - LOCK-BLOCK® units can be made with recycled concrete, recycled concrete aggregate, as well as recycled latex paint without sacrificing durability and performance. The heavy weight of the system contributes to your LEED™ total recycling point.

The use of the recycled latex paint can contribute to a LEED™ innovation point

We can also remanufacture site materials and excavated materials into LOCK-BLOCK® units in many cases contributing to an innovation or recycling point.
